In 2012, the Dordogne basin was classed as a world biosphere reserve by UNESCO, and as the cleanest one in France!
So it is obviously a joy for amateur fishermen, as a public domain 2nd category waterway, where you can find trout, pike, graylings, zander, and carp. Please make sure you bring your fishing card.
From the campground, a little path will lead you to small islands and pebbled beaches, where you can tan, relax and swim, paddle and splash in water that’s lively, but not rough. Please think to bring rubber sandals and mattresses or rubber rings so you can drift along gently, as well as a mask and snorkel to see the aquatic wildlife.
Campground on the Banks of the River Dordogne
Its waters are clean, not polluted. The proof? The wildlife that frequent it: the otter, coypu, deer, and boar, and in the morning you will see common kingfishers, ospreys, herons and ducks. Don’t forget to bring your binoculars and camera, it’s incredible how much you can see!!!
It is also the perfect river for a bit of canoeing, of course. Firstly, because it offers varied landscapes that differ depending on the time of day, you can see villages and châteaux, and because there are some sharp upstream routes for those who love a heart-stopping thrill, as well as peaceful routes, suitable for the whole family. It is the best place to go canoeing for the first time with your kids (ages 7 and up, it’s the law).
And to keep it interesting on your Camping Lot holiday, try stand up paddle boarding, and make all your muscles work!!
Please be aware that the section of the river Dordogne in Lot is not a factory or motorway at peak hour, so you don’t need to elbow and jostle for a bit of space. The river here is not invaded by a crowd of canoes… This makes it perfect for observing and enjoying its riches, and for having a great, fun time, because you’re there to enjoy yourself too!!!
